The Long Dark has an in-game map system that allows players to draw their own as they explore the world. However, some people would rather see a map right from the first moment they start a game. Today we are talking to DeserterX a long time member of our Nexus Mods community and author of many incredibly detailed armour mods for Fallout 4 and Skyrim. BigBizkit: Thanks, DeserterX, for joining us today: as always, we like to start the interview off by you telling us a bit about yourself. By Stray Wolf The maps created by Whiteberry were extremely helpful for everyone who started playing The Long Dark. Many players relied on those beautifully created maps and we all fell in love with them, just as I did. We all became great fans of those maps and I always wondered how much effort was actually involved to create those. The Long Dark is a first-person survival video game developed and published by Hinterland Studio. The player assumes the role of a crash-landed bush pilot who must survive the frigid Canadian wilderness after a geomagnetic regional storm disaster. The game received seed financing from the Canada Media Fund, and further funding was secured through a successful Kickstarter campaign in October 2013.
This isn’t meant as a comprehensive map (or a ‘map’ at all really) but instead as a simple graphic to reference when traveling between regions or upon spawning. Most maps I found either had too much information or were difficult to read. I personally enjoy discovery and the unkown, but after playing the game for awhile I sometimes just need to be quickly reminded what region connects to where. This is the purpose here.
Carter Hydro Dam in The Long Dark maps can hardly be called home. It is a region that connects Mystery lake to Pleasant Valley. It contains three workbenches, a fire barrel and usually a lot of valuable loot (including high-quality clothing, tools, ammo, and sometimes a rifle). It also has a lonely wolf named fluffy that roams in this area.
Crasset uploaded a map that was close to what I wanted so I made some adjustments and additions. I put this together for myself but thought I’d upload anyway in case anyone else finds it useful.
