Fema Fog Manual One of the more complicated automotive mend tasks that a mechanic or repair service store can undertake is the wiring, or rewiring of an automobiles electrical system. The situation fundamentally is that each car or truck differs. This Shoring Operations Guide (SOG) was developed by the FEMA US&R Technical Sub-committee in cooperation with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), as a working reference tool for US&R Rescue Team Personnel during response operations. The Operations Manual provides a detailed overview of the NYS US&R System. Other operational information is provided in the National US&R Response System Operations Manual, Field Operations Guide (FOG) and the US&R Incident Support Team (IST) Operations Manual.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Field Operations Guide (FOG) has been prepared to guide Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/FEMA Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) personnel to perform Federal disaster response operations during major disasters or emergencies. The pocket guide details such items as structural collapse patterns, hazard identification and building monitoring, rapid assessment of buildings, building triage and marking systems, advance shoring and shoring calculations.
Urban Search and Rescue is a dangerous undertaking conducted in buildings that are fully or partially collapsed. Typically, these structures are multi-storied and contain heavy debris with a high potential for additional collapse. Only those trained as Structures Specialists can evaluate a damaged building in order to reduce the risks to rescue personnel and victims.
The National Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) Response System provides for the coordination, development, and maintenance of the Federal effort with resources to locate, extricate, and provide immediate medical treatment to victims trapped in collapsed structures; and to conduct other life saving operations. The US&R Response System methods of operation, organization, capabilities, and procedures in mobilization, on-site operations, and demobilization are described in this document.
The Urban Search & Rescue (USAR) organizational module of the FOG is designed to provide an overview of the essential USAR functions at incidents where technical rescue expertise and equipment are required for safe and effective rescue operations. These incidents can be caused by a variety of natural events (i.e., earthquakes, floods, tornados, or hurricanes) that cause widespread damage to a variety of structures, mass transportation accidents with multiple victims, or single site events such as excavation collapse or confined space rescue operations involving only a few victims.
The DHS/FEMA US&R Field Operations Guide (FOG) has been developed to support response resources during training and on missions. The FOG is a compilation and summary of important strategic and tactical information, developed procedures, and reference material.

The North Carolina Department of Insurance - OSFM offers many Fire and Rescue Certifications. In addition to the Rescue Technician VMR, there are several Rescue Specialties including: Rope Specialty (Chapter 6), Trench Specialty (Chapter 11), Surface Water Rescue(Chapter 7), Confined Space (Chapter 9), and Structural Collapse (Chapter 10). RESCUE TECHNICIAN SPECIALTY CLASSES
Landis Fire Training Captain David Barlow just completed the
97 hour FEMA USAR Structural Collapse Class that satisfies the NC Structural Collapse Specialty requirements. There were 12 students in the class and it was held at Cleveland County Community College. The Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department in Shelby assisted Captain Barlow by providing a place to stay during the 9 day class.
The class was instructed by Battalion Chief Kevin Gordon of the Charlotte Fire Academy, Captain Brent Gordon CFD Truck 13 Haz Mat, Captain Tom Billig CFD Rescue 3, Captain Ken Hogue Engine 5 CFD, Jodie Blanton of the Gastonia Fire Department, Battalion Chief Barry Wilson of the Gastonia Fire Department. They were also assisted by a Captain from CFD on Rescue 10. This class was one of the more 'Hard Core' Rescue Classes experienced during Captain Barlow's 31 year fire service career. The other students in the class were all members of the Gaston County EMS S.T.A.R. Team

Captain Barlow was selected by the instructors to have his name sent in to NASA for the Annual DART Class. Since 1992, NASA Ames Research Center has offered a six-day 60+ hour collapsed structure rescue class at the Ames Research Center in California. This annual class is sponsored by Ames Research Center's Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) and is designed for firefighters and Urban Search And Rescue specialists. Annually there are only 24 students in the nation that attend this class in California. One of the Instructors - Tom Billig from the class is one of the NASA DART Instructors.
